SUMMARY:What Works in Open Source Marketing
DESCRIPTION:What Works in Open Source Marketing\n \n \n \n \n \n PETER ZAITSEV\n \n \n \n \n \n Deep dive into advertising Open Source software. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The webinar has ended\n \n \n \n \n Online event\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Watch on demand\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Open source products are valuable enough not to need advertising. But that is not quite true. There are over 100\,000 open source projects on Github\, but most developers only know about a hundred of them. \nAlso\, most open source solutions have an audience of developers. Advertising for developers feels like asking for trouble. Most of them hate ads\, especially if it is done in a “traditional” way. The developer audience is both diverse and complex\, they are allergic to “marketing” and promotion\, skeptical and practical\, and they only really believe other devs when it comes to tech. \nPeter will talk about what kind of strategy works in open source\, and what open source developers usually miss when promoting their products. We will talk about how to build a system promoting your software and work with the community as well as which marketing channels to be careful with so that you don’t meet with negativity or lose your budget. \nIn this presentation\, Peter will look into the question of why if you’re building a business around Open Source you should consider structuring it as a remote company. \nWe also will look at other company and team structures you may choose to have with the Remote Company\, their benefits\, and drawbacks. We will talk about different nationalities and cultures\, languages\, and timezone alignment challenges\, and what approaches you can use to manage them. This webinar will be based on Peter Zaitsev’s 16 years of experience running Percona\, and more than 20 years working remotely and being active in the remote work community. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Speaker\n \n \n \n \n \n Peter Zaitsev\n \n \n \n \n \n Founder\, Open-Source Advocate\, Technologist\, Boards Member\, Advisor & Mentor\n \n \n \n \n \n Peter Zaitsev is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Percona. Why you can do it without needing to compromise on Open Source Values. \nWe also will look into why Professional Services can be a great component of your strategy even if you’re building Open Core or other Semi Open Source Business.Peter will share his learning from running Percona for 16 years based on both direct Percona experience as well as conversations and observations with many industry leaders on how to design\, price\, sell and market Professional Services based solutions. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Speaker\n \n \n \n \n \n Peter Zaitsev\n \n \n \n \n \n Founder\, Open-Source Advocate\, Technologist\, Boards Member\, Advisor & Mentor\n \n \n \n \n \n Peter Zaitsev is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Percona.
